R.I.P.: GOP

Rest In Peace, Republican Party as it used to be known.

The party of Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Dwight Eisenhower, Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln is now becoming the party of the bizarre Steve Bannon and our reprehensible, reckless and revengeful current President, Donald Trump. Add in for good measure seriously outside the mainstream senate candidate Roy Moore running in Alabama.
What has happened to this Grand Old Party?
It has lost its way under the lack of leadership of our president who is a human being without a moral compass who cannot even speak respectfully to a grieving widow of a hero fallen soldier.
It has lost its way under a president who would rather get in the last nasty word against anyone disagreeing with him than actually working on a policy agenda good for the American public.
It has lost the optimism of Ronald Reagan. Instead of a shining city on a hill as a beacon of democracy and freedom to the world, the new GOP sees America as a slum with evil people trying to cross our borders for nefarious purposes. They see no beacon and no cause to be involved with the rest of the world except to shame them for not seeing the value of the new America First isolationist policy which is horrible for the stability and peace of the world.

It has lost its sense of decency as Senator Jeff Flake related in his comparison of Trump to the 1950’s Senator McCarthy era. The president has no shame, no compassion and no respect for American democratic values especially freedom of the press.
It has lost the idea of having a gentleman with a world view like former President George H.W. Bush who was respected by our allies in Europe and around the world.
It has lost its integrity and respect for the truth. Everyone who is listening knows the current president tells lies. There is no other way to say it. He makes things up. This is dangerous for a political party and for our country. It has lost its sense of dignity. Rather than debate and discuss on the issues of the day, Bannon and other cowardly Republican leaders who fail to speak up against the anti-democratic acts and comments of this president, attack the person making these remarks.
The GOP is no longer a Grand Old Party. It is becoming a fringe group of nasty, angry, reckless, bigoted, anti-immigrant, Know Nothing politicians whose main goal is to get re-elected and not say anything to anger the president who is not a Republican in his views, outlook and character.
The GOP is losing its “normal” politicians in the age of Trump. Senators Bob Corker and Jeff Flake are retiring rather than fight primary battles against 100% Trumpites who act like they are in some type of political cult never disagreeing with the president on anything.
The GOP has leaders like Congressman Paul Ryan who are being shameful in their lack of speaking out against Trump’s anti-democratic antics and terrible behavior.  Why are Ryan and other GOP leaders so afraid of upsetting this cowardly, bully president?
The Grand Old Party’s new base of Trump supporters do not seem capable or willing to discuss the issues in a normal, compromising way. Rather it seems to be my way or the highway.  Any view against Trump is seen as a cause for locking someone up. The comments from the crowds at a Bannon or Trump event should be of concern to any decent Republican of character. The GOP has lost its sense of humor.  There is no joy in Mudville anymore as not only the president but the party has struck out. There is anger everywhere from the president on down.
The GOP has lost its sense of fairness and compassion. Immigrants help make America great and talking constantly against immigration is downright harmful to the character of America.
The GOP has lost its way. Being against everything and everybody is not having conservative values. From Lincoln to Reagan, the GOP leaders who had strong values, compassion, goals and were strong believers in the American character would be shocked and saddened to see what has happened to their Grand Old Party.
It is no longer grand. It has lost its old values. And, it is no longer a real political party but now only a collection of mean-spirited, reckless and revengeful people sprouting truly un-American statements.
It is time for Republicans to recapture their party!
